Alexander Borovsky was born in Kiev in 1960. In 1983 he graduated from the Production Department of the Moscow Art Theatre School. Throughout his career he has designed more than 80 productions in the most famous Russian theatres – Sovremennik Theatre, Oleg Tabakov’s Theatre, the Mayakovsky Theatre, the Satira Theatre, the Moscow Art Theatre, the Malaya Bronnaya Theatre, the Satirikon Theatre, the Stanislavsky Theatre, the Maly Theatre, the Maly Drama Theatre and the Alexandrinsky Theatre (Saint-Petersburg), the Bolshoi theatre etc. As a set designer Borovsky contributed to the work of some theatres in Finland, Bulgaria, the USA, Denmark, Austria and in other countries.
Borovsky is a repeated winner of the Golden Mask National Theatre Award in the nomination of Best Designer in Drama. He is also the winner of the Stanislavsky Award and many other theatre awards.
Alexander Borovsky works as a designer-in-chief for the Theatre Art Studio, Oleg Tabakov’s Theatre, Theatre Meyerhold Centre and the Moscow Art Theatre. Together with Sergey Zhenovach, Borovsky worked on such productions as “Five Evenings” and “The Night before Christmas” in the Malaya Bronnaya Theatre; on “Wit from Woe”, “Truth is Good and Happiness is Better” and “The Imaginary Invalid” in the Maly Theatre; and on “The White Guard” in the Moscow Art Theatre.
In The Theatre Art Studio Borovsky created stage design for all productions directed by Sergey Zhenovach.
